Description
A thick, creamy, and calming smoothie made with chamomile tea, bananas, and oats. This meal-prep-friendly recipe provides sustained energy without caffeine, making it perfect for busy mornings or lunch bases.
Ingredients
- 1 cup strong brewed chamomile tea, cooled
- 2 large ripe bananas (fresh or frozen)
- 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt (or coconut yogurt for dairy-free)
- 1/4 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Handful of ice cubes (if using fresh bananas)
Instructions
- Brew the chamomile tea by steeping 2 tea bags or 1 tablespoon of loose leaf flowers in 1 cup of hot water for 10 minutes. Strain if using loose leaf, then let cool completely to room temperature.
- Peel the bananas. If prepping for the week, freeze them on a baking sheet until solid. For immediate use, fresh bananas work, but frozen ones provide a thicker texture.
- In a high-speed blender, combine the cooled chamomile tea, Greek yogurt, almond milk, vanilla extract, and honey (if using). Blend on low to combine.
- Add the frozen bananas and rolled oats to the blender. Secure the lid tightly.
- Blend on low speed, gradually increasing to high. Blend for 60-90 seconds until the oats are pulverized and the mixture is completely smooth and creamy. Add more almond milk if too thick, or more ice/bananas if too thin.
- Taste and adjust sweetness or tang as needed.
- Pour into storage containers for meal prep, leaving headspace if freezing. Store in the fridge for up to 3 days or freezer for up to 1 month.
Notes
For best results, use frozen bananas to achieve an ice-cream-like thickness. If using a less powerful blender, soak the oats in the almond milk for 10 minutes before blending. Always cool the tea completely before blending to prevent melting the bananas. The smoothie may separate in the fridge; shake or stir well before drinking.
