Description
A homemade copycat recipe for Raising Cane’s fried bread, featuring a crispy exterior and fluffy interior. Perfect for meal prep and dipping in sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/4 cups (280g) All-Purpose Flour
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) Active Dry Yeast
- 2 tbsp Granulated Sugar
- 1 cup (240ml) Warm Whole Milk
- 2 tbsp Unsalted Butter, melted
- 1 large Egg
- 1 tsp Salt
- Vegetable Oil or Canola Oil (for frying)
- Powdered Sugar (optional, for dusting)
Instructions
- Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm milk and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Sprinkle yeast over the top and let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- Mix the dough: In a large bowl, combine flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a shaggy dough forms. Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- First rise: Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled in size.
- Shape the bread: Punch down dough and divide into 8-10 equal pieces. Roll into balls and flatten into ovals or rectangles. Place on a parchment-lined sheet and let rise again for 30 minutes.
- Heat the oil: Pour oil into a Dutch oven or heavy pot to a depth of 2 inches. Heat to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the bread: Carefully lower 2-3 pieces of dough into the hot oil. Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and puffed. Flip only once.
- Drain and serve: Remove bread with a slotted spoon and place on a wire rack over paper towels. Cool slightly and dust with powdered sugar if desired.
Notes
Ensure oil is at 350°F for best results. Do not overcrowd the pot. Drain on a wire rack to prevent sogginess. Can be frozen for up to 3 months and reheated in an air fryer.
