Description
A meal-prep friendly twist on the classic Monte Cristo, these roll-ups feature ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese wrapped in tortillas, pan-fried until crispy, and served with a sweet powdered sugar dip.
Ingredients
Scale
- 5 large flour tortillas (6–8 inch)
- 4 ounces thinly cut ham slices
- 4 ounces low-sodium turkey breast slices
- 1 cup grated Swiss cheese
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon milk or water
- Pinch of salt
- Butter (for brushing and greasing pan)
- Powdered sugar (for dipping)
- Maple syrup or raspberry jam (for dipping)
Instructions
- Warm tortillas slightly in the microwave for 10 seconds to make them pliable.
- Lay tortillas on a clean surface. Place two slices of ham and two slices of turkey in the center of each, leaving a 1-inch border.
- Sprinkle grated Swiss cheese over the meats to act as a glue.
- Roll the tortillas tightly from the bottom edge, tucking in the filling, and press the top edge firmly.
- Whisk eggs, milk, and salt in a shallow bowl to create an egg wash.
- Brush the outside of each roll-up generously with egg wash, then brush with melted butter.
- Heat a large non-stick skillet over medium heat with a little butter or oil.
- Place roll-ups seam-side down in the skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
- Flip carefully and cook other sides for another 2-3 minutes, rotating to brown evenly.
- Transfer to a wire rack to cool slightly to prevent sogginess.
- Store individually in airtight containers or wrap in plastic wrap.
Notes
For best texture, ensure tortillas are room temperature before rolling to prevent tearing. Do not overcrowd the pan to ensure crispiness rather than steaming. These can be frozen after cooking for up to 3 months. Reheat in an air fryer or toaster oven at 350°F for 5-7 minutes for best results.
