Description
These homemade soft cinnamon rolls are made without yeast, using self-rising flour for a quick and easy preparation. They feature a tender, pillowy texture and are topped with a rich cream cheese glaze, making them perfect for busy mornings or lazy weekends.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups self-rising flour
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 1/2 cup milk (whole milk or buttermilk)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened (for glaze)
- 1 cup powdered sugar, sifted (for glaze)
- 1–2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, whisk together melted butter, sugar, egg, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth and slightly frothy.
- Add self-rising flour to the wet mixture and stir gently until just combined. The dough should be sticky and soft, resembling a thick batter.
- In a small bowl, mix softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon to form a thick paste.
- Pour the dough into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly to about half an inch thick.
- Spread the cinnamon-butter mixture evenly over the dough, pressing it gently to adhere.
- Starting from the long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut into 12 equal rolls using a sharp knife or dental floss and place them cut-side up in the dish.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- While rolls bake, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth and creamy.
- Let rolls cool for 5 minutes, then drizzle with cream cheese glaze and serve warm.
Notes
Do not overmix the dough to avoid tough rolls. The dough should be sticky. Use dental floss for clean cuts. Ensure butter is softened, not melted, for the filling. Let rolls rest for 5 minutes before glazing to prevent the glaze from melting or hardening.
